According to the organization website, the Sidama Liberation Front has a 3:5 flag, horizontally divided red-white-blue. A blue triangle is placed along the fly and stretches over half of the flag. Seven stars are placed in the blue triangle and probably represent a constellation I have not been able to identify.
The Front's motto is "Struggle for Freedom, Justice and Democracy". It struggles, among other things, for Sidama people's national self-determination. In July 1999, the National Council changed the name of the organization from "Sidama Liberation Movement" to "Sidama Liberation Front".
In the former administrative system of Ethiopia, a region called Sidamo (capital city: Awassa) existed in the south of the country at the Kenyan border. Sidamos represented 2.4% of the total population of Ethiopia (including Erythrea at that time). In the new system, the former Sidama region is now included in Oromia and Southern State. Sidamo language is rattached to the Kushitic branch of Chamito-Semitic languages, as well as, among other languages spoken in the Eastern African horn, Afar-Saho, Galla, and Somali.
